Implant Features & Benefits
One Piece Design
The implant is designed in one piece, reducing the potential for implant breakage. Traditional two-piece implants require fixation or soldering, resulting in weak points.
Base Projection
The base projection provides enough material for natural looking projection of the reconstructed ear. The base can be altered to fit the projection needs of the patient.
Tissue Integration
The omnidirectional porous structure facilitates fibrovascular ingrowth. This creates a living graft, giving the implant its own blood supply and helping to prevent complications.
Ease of Modification
A scalpel or burr can be utilized to define or alter contours as needed to provide better ear symmetry.
Sterile, Non-Pyrogenic
Sterile, non-pyrogenic, implants limiting processing risk for the hospital.
MR Safe
This designation by the US FDA provides assurance of no image artifact or distortion of diagnostic MRI imaging.
Surgical Information
Preparation
To serve as a prophylactic safeguard against potential infection, the implant ought to be thoroughly rinsed in a sterile antibiotic solution prior to proceeding with the implantation procedure
Positioning
Symmetric position of the ear may be determined using a clear template tracing of the contralateral side. Final implant position is dependent on the underlying condition.
Modifications
Malleable and allows for easy modification with a scalpel blade or burring instrument. See implant preparation section below for additional information.
Soft Tissue Coverage
Meticulous dissection of fascial flap is critical to ensure sufficient soft tissue coverage around the entire implant. Enough flap should be harvested to ensure the implant is completely covered without tension
Fixation
If the potential for the implant to move before tissue in growth exists, fixation can be accomplished with sutures.
Post-operative Care
Patients should be willing and able to follow post-operative instructions.
Implant Preparation
Soaking the implants with an antibiotic solution
1. Prophylactic measure against any contaminants introduced during surgery
2. Wetting the implant allows for better, more complete tissue integration
3. Improves fibrovascular ingrowth into the implant’s pores
Antibiotic Selection
The solution is dependent on patient tolerance and antibiotic need. There is no known antibiotic incompatibilities with porous polyethylene. DO NOT USE SU-POR® WITH ANTISEPTICS, BETADINE OR ANY OTHER CYTOTOXIC SOLUTIONS.
Cutting and Contouring
1. Readily cut and adjusted using scalpel or burr to achieve the desired contour and detail. A fluted burr at low RPM rinsed in sterile saline may be used to carve the implant.
2. The implant should be rinsed with sterile saline following any modifications to remove loose particles or debris
